(except I saw them already this past year)
1. Strangers On a Train (1951)
2. The Killers (1946)
3. Chinatown (1974) – I finally re-watched this movie this year, with some reluctance, because it’s just… it’s just not classic noir. But I will acknowledge it’s very well done.
4. The Wrong Man (1956)
5. Sudden Fear (1952)
6. Odd Man Out (1947)
7. and 8. I enjoyed re-watching The Glass Key(1942) this year, although I don’t think it’s quite up there with most of the other movies I’m recommending. If you want to have a look at this adaption of a Dashiell Hammett novel dealing with dirty political intrigues, creepy thugs, beautiful dames, and Alan Ladd, though, I’m certainly not going to stand in your way. If you want to really do something cool, something I wanted to do this year but couldn’t quite arrange – watch The Glass Key either shortly before or after watching the also really enjoyable (and technically more accomplished) Miller’s Crossing (1990) – the Coen Brother’s coverage of some of the same source material.
9. The Spiral Staircase (1946) I’m going to call this noir-light, I think most noir-type viewers would enjoy it
10. Decoy (1946)
11. The Breaking Point (1950)
12. Grand Central Murder (1942) This one is certainly not a top-notch flick, but I still found this little b entertaining, in a goofy way
13. ? Vertigo (1958) noir or not noir ? Let me know what you think!
