Holy Mackerel with Phano

Hello everyone, again! Quick publication announcement today, I have a short creative non-fiction piece, “Holy Mackerel” out with Phano for their Issue 9 – September issue. It could be called a spin-off piece from my cookbook, as the only reason I was even looking for mackerel was for a recipe that is in the book! (Yes, the piece is literally about mackerel.)

I’ve been taking myself a little “stay-cation” this first week of September. We’ve been very fortunate all summer in my valley, with no wildfire smoke – right up until a couple of days ago! Today is a “give my lungs a rest and stay inside” day for sure, but yesterday I went for a little drive and hike up to the viewpoint over the city of Penticton, which is the closest city to me.

I had a nice burger at one of the beach-front restaurants afterwards, but they didn’t have any mackerel on the menu!
