Das Brot ist lecker.

This is the first sentence I ever wrote in German.

I have recently decided to try learning German. I’m stating this publicly so I don’t give up quickly.

I think learning another language is good for your brain. And German isn’t supposed to be particularly difficult for those who speak English as their Muttersprache. (See, I bet you can figure out what that word means without help.)

I may have my “the” wrong in my first sentence ever, though. In German, there are three “the” options, (Das/Die/Der) and I haven’t even started to understand when you use which.

Das? Brot ist lecker. The bread is tasty.

Me and a modern language-culture that obsesses about it’s bread should get along okay.

I picked up an English-German/German-English dictionary at the Okanagan’s best book shop last week – The Book Shop – for a very reasonable price, and I’ve already enjoyed flipping through it and tasting a few random words at moments when I choose to be offline.

After something of a further delay, I have finally received my own final copies of my own cookbook – Blackmail, Bodies and Baked Noodles: A Guide and Recipe Collection Celebrating Box 13.

Once again, here is the “Universal Book Link” –BlackmailBodiesBakedNoodles – click that and it should take you to see all your e-book purchasing options.

Because you’ve visited my website, the first fifty people to do so should be able to use coupon code 5GM8D on Smashwords to get a free e-book copy!

You may also order print copies through the Lulu bookstore. Just know that if you’re in Canada and order through Lulu, for whatever business reason, they’ll print and ship you your copies from North Carolina, and delivery could take two or three weeks, depending on how the statutory holidays fall.

The discount code for print copies at the Lulu bookstore at this moment is HARVEST15 – this should apply to all books purchased through The Lulu Bookshop, not just mine.

What else.

Recently I had another short story accepted for future publication, I’ll have a story in the debut issue of The Carrier Bag. (It has nothing to do with old radio dramas, but it does have food!)

And there will be a Kickstarter launch for We Make the Village – An Anthology of Community (an anthology a friend of mine is putting together and in which a different story of mine will appear) soon!

I’m also returning to participation with the London Writer’s Salon in their very useful Writer’s Hours.

It is the “getting busy” season! I hope you are also busy with things that are making you happy. I wish a happy autumn to you all!
