I will now share some random thoughts with you.
One) I wish I’d written this article about “competence porn” in film, it’s worth a read.
Two) Find out if you have access to Kanopy through your library, and suddenly have access to obscure films even if you live in a small town. (I watched one film earlier this week with a grand total of 344 reviews logged on IMDb.) It was not a good movie, but it was a movie that (relatively) very few people have seen! (And it did have a bit of competence porn in it.) Also, you might discover you have free access to series, including series from other parts of the world. (I have yet to determine if the foreign series comes in their original language or are dubbed, because I’ve yet to pick one off the long list of things to watch, but I’m hopeful!)
Three) Toblerone bars might be expensive, but they make good, long-lasting Christmas gifts when divided and served up judiciously, I will likely finish mine later this week. Also, candy canes at after-Christmas discount are fun.
Four) I have been saying and hearing the “wrong” term all my life when I’ve encountered or said “jerry-rigged.” It’s actually either jerry-built or jury-rigged! (Unless we accept that since so many people are using “jerry-rigged” it is now actually acceptable, because language changes Bah, changes!)
This term actually makes a lot more sense now that I know it has nothing to do with Germans.
Five) Great-horned owls hooting from the neighbour’s tree at night is no longer worrisome, now that I no longer have a small dog.
Six) Remembered the Strandbeest today. Wish they weren’t made of plastic, but they are still pretty neat!
