When I’m not writing short stories or poems, I spend quite a bit of time listening to classic American radio dramas/plays and also cooking, often at the same time. I decided to put the two things (and my writing abilities, such as they are) together, and I’ve been slowly working on a potential cookbook series which does that.
This first cookbook matches recipes to episodes of detective-style adventure-mystery series Box Thirteen. Why? Because this way, even if I never get any other cookbooks in my potential trilogy of cookbook-guides completed, I’ll have still achieved one for my personal favourite classic radio drama. I know Box 13 is not the most popular classic radio program ever, but I don’t care, and I will get to more popular series if there is a later.
Speaking of more popular radio dramas, I’ve completed a listen to every single radio Dragnet episode, noting all mentions of food.

I listened as carefully as I could, but over 300 episodes, my concentration was bound to wander now and then! I am more than open to corrections. (I have a somewhat easier to read copy of the database saved in Excel, and am also happy to share that file with anyone who is interested, just send me a message!)
I continue to thank Jenny Hammerton, her generosity and practise in matching celebrity recipes with films and TV episodes inspires me. If you haven’t visited Silver Screen Suppers yet, please treat yourself today!
