Rabbit (Microfiction)

Rabbit found at the bottom of an empty coal bin, how lucky were you? How did you survive the initial shock? The loudest noise in the world, the world tumbling up and over and around and down around you, into the dark. Then waking, in a cave growing cold, with a bloody stranger whose first thought was that they, trapped, could eat you. After all, you were brought to life so that someone human could feed. And yet there is for you another, a third reprieve. After a night, perhaps two or three, do you remember? The sound of digging, coming for you – and you a hostage half-forgot, are in the morning recovered. Found in the coal bin, with a few wilted greens – your rescuer unknown to you asks “Were you alone?” and does not believe your luck – you brave rabbit, know better – the secret is yes, luck, but also love.
