My writing friends up in Prince George would like you to know, if you have a connection to Northern BC, you’re welcome to join the Northern BC Writers Association! They have a lot of events happening this month, so if you’re in the Prince George area, you should definitely check them out.
I am unfortunately not in the Prince George area, although a visit to Prince George may happen eventually. I’m told that it is a very long eight hour drive from here. And of course I would add two hours to that drive and make a detour to spend a day at historic gold rush town/tourist trap Barkerville either before PG or on the way back.
Did you know, there are official “recreational hand panning reserves” in British Columbia? I did not know that until just recently. Now all I have to do is figure out how to read the reserve maps, and I’ll be rich! (Or just be devoured by black flies. I’m starting to have a hard time remembering how flying-biting-bug-infested most of Canada is, because where I live it’s too dry for most flying biting bugs.)
Nothing much else to report here. I am continuing to write mostly flash fiction. Last month I mustered the energy to respond to a ginormous letter and package one of my few remaining penpals sent to me back in the early spring. She only writes a couple of times a year at most, but when she does write to me, she writes a lot. It is really impressive.
I sent out some more of my stories and poems to magazines last week, begging asking them to publish me.
My two strawberry plants are putting out a second crop of berries for July, which is nice.
How is your summer so far?
