#Noirvember
by Kilmeny MacMichael
High on the peaks etched against the sky
turning from the tips of edgeless blades
the colour world seeks black and white
Trembling behind masks of iridescent skin
and smoke-gravelled voices
everyone deserves a place to hide
For greater depth, wait for the sun to descend
Then fog leaves glitter and cut-rate magic starts
drips and tangles petroleum powder beauty
as those who can’t afford to luxuriate in the sun
glory in the stark
In November we reach for shadow
embrace blind-striated mind
As there is no light to celebrate
which does not first move and learn to strive
through watered glossy dark
in shadow we find a century’s pulsating heart.
